Idaho wildlife biologists will be trapping grizzly bears in areas near Yellowstone National Park as part of ongoing research efforts required under the Endangered Species Act. The Idaho Department of Fish & Game is advising the public that scientific trapping operations are once again about to begin in the Upper Snake Region. Biologists working on behalf of the larger Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team will begin to work mainly in that portion of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest inside of the caldera in Island Park, along with sites to the west along the Centennial Mountain Range. Public warned about grizzly trapping in Grand Teton

Biologists with the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team (IGBST) plan to conduct trapping of grizzly bears within Grand Teton National Park as part of ongoing research efforts required under the Endangered Species Act. The trapping allows researchers to collect data and monitor the population of grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE). Monitoring of grizzly bear distribution, as well as their food selection and other activities, is vital to recovery of grizzlies across the GYE. Researchers trapping grizzly bears in southwest Montana

As part of ongoing efforts required under the Endangered Species Act to monitor the population of grizzly bears in the greater Yellowstone area, the U.S. Geological Survey will be trapping grizzly bears on private land in southwest Montana. Scientific trapping operations will be conducted on private land in the southern Madison Mountains, Montana, according to a statement released by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team. Grizzly bear trapping, research to continue in Yellowstone this fall

Biologists with the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team will be trapping grizzly bears as part of ongoing research in Yellowstone National Park from August 28 through October 31. Team members will bait and trap bears at several remote sites in the park. Once trapped, the bears are anesthetized to allow biologists to fit them with radio tracking collars and to collect biological samples for study, according to a statement released Friday by the park's public affairs office. Grand Teton National Park managers are warning visitors to steer clear of trap sites this summer where bears are being captured as part of ongoing bear management operations, and to follow basic rules for staying safe in bear country. A small number of "nuisance bears" throughout Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Wyoming Game and Fish trapping grizzly bears in Grass Creek area

Wildlife officials have proposed ending federal protections for Yellowstone area grizzly bears.

As part of ongoing efforts to monitor the population of grizzly bears in the greater Yellowstone area, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will conduct trapping operations in the Grass Creek drainage northwest of Thermopolis April 23 - May 23.
