Bighorn sheep and other wildlife are likely to be subjects in a newly announced photography contest focused on Yellowstone National Park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Yellowstone Park Foundation and Nature\u2019s Best Photography magazine are launching the\u00a0Yellowstone ForeverPhoto Contest,created to celebrate the world\u2019s first national park through photography and public participation.<\/p>\n

Designed as a run-up to the National Park Service\u2019s Centennial Anniversary in 2016, the Yellowstone Forever Photo Contest is one of several Yellowstone Park Foundation activities planned to observe the Centennial.\u00a0 It is also the first global photo competition to be focused on Yellowstone.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we join in the celebration of the National Park Service\u2019s Centennial Anniversary, our goal is to focus on Yellowstone National Park through the eyes of Park visitors,\u201d said Karen Bates Kress, president of the Yellowstone Park Foundation. \u201cWhat they have witnessed over the years, and the photographs they have made will surely result in a remarkable body of work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Entries for the contest will be accepted from June 1, 2015 through Sept. 10, 2015 in four categories:\u00a0 Wildlife, Landscapes, Yellowstone Adventure, and a Mobile category for images created on phones and tablets.<\/p>\n

Winners will be featured in Nature\u2019s Best Photography<\/i> magazine in spring 2016, displayed in a print exhibition at the Old Faithful Haynes Photo Shop during the summer of 2016, and will appear in online galleries and multimedia presentations.\u00a0 In addition to this exposure, contest winners will receive cash and prizes.\u00a0 To enter, photographers can visit www.ypf.org\/contest<\/a> or www.naturesbestphotography.com\/yellowstone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to involve photographers at all levels of experience and background,\u201d said Steve Freligh, co-publisher of Nature\u2019s Best Photography<\/i> magazine and chair of the competition judging panel. \u201c<\/i>Whether you live in the United States or abroad, if you have ever traveled to Yellowstone National Park and have favorite images and adventures to share, we invite you to be part of this historic public collection of nature photography.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judges for the new global contest include Steve Freligh, Editor-in-Chief of Nature\u2019s Best Photography<\/i> magazine; Tom Murphy, world renown wilderness photographer and naturalist, who has photographed Yellowstone for over 40 years; and Annie Griffiths, one of the first women photographers for National Geographic<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park\u2019s 2.2 million acre expanse is home to grizzly and black bears, herds of bison, elk, wolves, and much more. The wild, mountainous landscape of rivers, geysers, lakes, waterfalls, and the magnificent Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone inspire millions of visitors every year to take pictures and share their experiences.<\/p>\n
