After seeing a recent Yellowstone Gate article by photographer Meg Sommers about how she got a great shot of sandhill cranes<\/a>, reader Mike Wheeler sent in a few great photos of his own. Wheeler was in Yellowstone National Park in October 2010, and had just finished a photography course taught by Sommers for the Yellowstone Association.<\/p>\n

Wheeler was heading home from Yellowstone<\/a> and it was early in the morning, with few people moving around in the park, when he saw a beta male wolf from the Canyon pack stalking a bison and its calf. Though it seemed at first the wolf was after the calf, Wheeler later learned that it brought down the adult bison, which was ill.<\/p>\n

“We never heard what happened to the calf,” he recalls.<\/p>\n
