UPDATE \u2014 10:15 a.m. Wed., Aug. 21: The Grand Loop Road between Fishing Bridge and Canyon has be reopened after a brief closure due to the approaching Alum Fire. Park officials warn that the road will remain subject to closure on short notice if fire conditions change.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yellowstone National Park officials announced late Tuesday that due to concerns for public safety arising from increased activity on the Alum Fire<\/a>, a portion of the Grand Loop Road has been temporarily closed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A 7.5-mile section of road is closed from Fishing Bridge north past Mud Volcano to the Elk Antler Creek pull-out, which is in the south end of Hayden Valley, the park’s public affairs office said in a statement.<\/p>\n

During this temporary closure, all travel between Canyon Junction and the Fishing Bridge, Lake Village and Bridge Bay area requires a long detour through Old Faithful.<\/p>\n

The Alum Fire had already prompted the closure of Mud Volcano and some other roadside picnic spots, and was burning within one mile of the Grand Loop Road.<\/p>\n

Park officials did not say when the road might be reopened.<\/p>\n
