Yellowstone south entrance reopens after closure due to wildfire

Authorities have closed the main connector road between the south end of Yellowstone National Park and northern border of Grand Teton National Park after a wildfire that started last month has grown to nearly 7,000 acres. Yellowstone starts nightly closure of part of grand loop road

A portion of the Grand Loop Road in Yellowstone National Park will be closed each night beginning Monday, July 27. The 5.4 mile closure will prevent through-travel between Norris Geyser Basin and Mammoth Hot Springs from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m. each night. The closure is part of a multi-year road improvement project on a 16-mile stretch of road, with this year marking the final phase of the project. Nightly closures will be in effect seven days a week for the section of road just north of the entrance to the Norris Campground to the Moose Exhibit turnaround in the Willow Park area, just south of the Indian Creek Campground eight miles south of Mammoth Hot Springs. Winter travel season winding down in Yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park’s winter season is drawing to a close. Park roads that serve snowmobile and snow coach travel to iconic Yellowstone locations will be closed in stages beginning Sunday, March 1. The road from the park’s East Entrance over Sylvan Pass and oversnow travel south into the park from Mammoth Hot Springs will end at 9:00 p.m. Sunday. Closures on other road segments will occur during the next two weeks, with all oversnow travel scheduled to end for the season at 9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15. Continue Reading →

Grand Teton set for seasonal road closures

Grand Teton National Park will close some of its roads to seasonal travel in preparation for winter.

Residents of Jackson, Wyo. and park visitors are reminded that two roads within Grand Teton National Park will close to vehicle traffic for the season on the evening of Friday, October 31, 2014. These seasonal closures include the length of the Teton Park Road between Taggart Lake parking area and Signal Mountain Lodge parking lot, as well as the Moose-Wilson Road between Granite Canyon and Death Canyon trailheads. In addition to the annual road closures, the Moose, Moran and Granite Canyon entrance stations will be temporarily closed for the month of November and early December. Some Yellowstone roads set to close as season ends

Gardiner, Mont. lies at the northern edge of Yellowstone National Park, and is the historic original entrance to the park.

There are only a few days left to for motorists to drive into most of the interior of Yellowstone National Park before the roads close for the season. Roads to most of the park’s popular locations close to vehicle travel at 8 a.m. Monday, November 3. The exception is the road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Mont., through Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyo. to the park’s Northeast Entrance and the communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Mont. Grand Teton closes Jenny Lake trails during construction

Starting Monday, October 27, a temporary area closure will be in effect for several trails within the Jenny Lake area of Grand Teton National Park. Park officials say the temporary public closures are necessary to ensure public safety during construction activities involving helicopter-assisted transport of heavy material to trail locations on the west side of Jenny Lake. The public closure will last from October 27 through October 30, and possibly longer, according to a statement released by the park's public affairs office. Continue Reading →

Moose-Wilson Road to close for dust treatment Sept. 9-10

A popular scenic road in Grand Teton National Park will be temporarily closed this month to allow for road work aimed at reducing dust. Abrief travel closure on the unpaved section of the Moose-Wilson Road will be in place for about 48 hours, beginning 4 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, to accommodate a dust abatement application. Signal Mountain Road in Grand Teton subject to closures

The Signal Mountain Summit Road in Grand Teton National Park will be temporarily closed to public access while Teton Interagency Fire Management staff conduct fuels reduction work along the upper 1.5 miles of road. Between June 17 and July 17, park visitors should expect road closures on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews may also close the road for short periods of time during the remainder of the week to facilitate the movement of equipment and provide for public safety on the narrow, winding road.
