Grand Teton pathways to close during construction

Construction will soon begin on the next phase of Grand Teton National Park’s shared-use pathway system. The new pathway segment (1.25 miles from Moose Junction to Antelope Flats Road) is expected to be completed by late fall 2015 and open for public use in spring 2016. In addition, intermittent closures of the 14.5 miles of existing park pathways will occur through mid-October to allow for application of a sealant material and for safety improvement work. Jackson Hole celebrates pathway completion, National Elk Refuge centennial

Two celebrations of public lands projects in Jackson Hole last week drew dignitaries from across the spectrum of state, local and federal governments, and both were praised as models of cooperative efforts that have made local landscapes more livable and sustainable. The recent completion of the second phase of a multipurpose pathway connecting the Wyoming communities of Moose and Jackson was marked by separate events at both ends of the pathway. Also, the National Elk Refuge, spanning from the northern end of Jackson to the southern end of Grand Teton National Park, marked its centennial. Continue Reading →

Yellowstone roads, Grand Teton pathways open for start of summer travel season

A newly completed extension of the Grand Teton pathway system opened Wednesday, and Yellowstone roads throughout the park are open — all in time for the traditional Memorial Day weekend start of the 2012 summer travel season. Construction workers have wrapped up efforts on the 6-mile pathway that parallels Highway 26/89/191 from the Gros Ventre River to Moose Junction in Grand Teton National Park, and the new segment opened Wednesday to bicyclists, joggers and others for the first time. Meanwhile, scant snow along Yellowstone roads, including high mountain passes like Dunraven Pass in Yellowstone National Park and Beartooth Pass on the Beartooth Highway should make for relatively easy early season travel starting Friday, May 25.
