After nine days of intensive searching, authorities in Yellowstone National Park are scaling back their efforts to find a missing swimmer. Feiyang “Isaac” Xiang, a 21-year old seasonal concessionaire employee from China, was last seen being swept down the Yellowstone River on Thursday, July 23. Woman injured by Yellowstone bison while taking photos

A 43-year-old woman from Mississippi received minor injuries Tuesday when she turned her back on a bison to pose for a photo with it near the Fairy Falls trailhead in Yellowstone National Park. She is the fifth person injured after approaching bison this season. The woman and her daughter were by the trailhead sign when they decided to take a picture with a bison that was approximately 6 yards away from them near the trail. The Upper Terrace Drive near Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park reopened to vehicles on Monday after rangers had temporarily closed the road due to a new thermal feature. Popular Yellowstone attraction closed to cars due to thermal activity

Rangers temporarily closed Upper Terrace Drive near Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park to vehicles due to a new thermal feature that is affecting the road. The feature became visibly active this May near the Upper Terrace parking lot, creating new small terraces adjacent to the drive. Geologists and rangers monitored the thermal feature, and found temperatures up to 152 degrees Fahrenheit. In recent separate incidents, two people were injured after getting too close to bison, bringing the total to four injured so far this summer in bison encounters. The first of the two recent encounters occurred on June 23 when an off-duty concession employee came upon a bison while walking off trail after dark in the Lower Geyser Basin area. Grand Teton National Park rangers rescued an injured climber Tuesday after he slipped and slid 150 feet on a rock slab. Charlie Emerson, 31, of Marietta, Ga. was climbing alone when he slipped and slid approximately 150-200 feet before coming to rest in a snowfield at the base of the rock feature, just above the Meadows area of Garnet Canyon in the heart of the Teton Range. Storm topples 150 trees onto Grand Teton roads

A strong early season storm left crews in Grand Teton National Park scrambling Monday to clear roads of more than 150 trees toppled by powerful winds. The blustery weather ripped through the park around 6 p.m. Monday, temporarily stranding visitors on parts of the Teton Park Road, Moose-Wilson Road and Signal Mountain Summit Road, as well as blocking traffic in many other areas. Park rangers, road crews, and fire engines responded to clear park roads of over 150 downed trees, with no visitor injuries reported and most auto traffic returning to normal by 11 p.m. Continue Reading →

A 62-year-old Australian man sustained serious injuries Tuesday morning after an encounter with a bison near Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. The man, whose name was not released by park authorities, is the second visitor in less than three weeks to suffer a serious injury after a close encounter with a bison near Old Faithful geyser. While it is not uncommon for park visitors to be injured by bison or other wildlife, officials from Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks have commented recently about what they say is a growing challenge in educating international visitors about the danger of wild animals.
