Cody Wild West River Fest celebrates role of Shoshone River in local life

After an inaugural 2013 program that organizers said was "wildly successful," Cody's Wild West River Fest returns this weekend with a wide range of family-friendly events centered around the Shoshone River. The 3-day celebration includes contests, races, demonstrations, parties, concerts and other events aimed at educating attendees about the importance of the Shoshone River to life in Cody and the surrounding area, and promoting outdoor recreation and stewardship focused on maintaining a healthy waterway. Cody Wild West River Fest draws honors for local conservationist

A Cody, Wyo. employee of The Nature Conservancy has been honored for her work in creating a new event that focuses public attention on the Shoshone River, which originates along the eastern boundary of Yellowstone National Park. Katherine Thompson, the Conservancy’s northwest Wyoming program director, is the recipient of the Deborah MacKenzie Award for Innovation. Continue Reading →

Cody Wild West River Fest to celebrate Shoshone River east of Yellowstone

A wide range of sponsoring groups led by The Nature Conservancy are organizing the Cody Wild West River Fest, scheduled for Aug. 23-24. Among the activities planned are a fishing contest, boating competitions, a film festival and concerts. The festival will include events that draw attention to water quality and conservation issues, but the main goal is to celebrate the diverse role the Shoshone River plays in commerce, recreation and community health from the eastern edge of Yellowstone National Park across a vast drainage that is home to farms, critical wildlife habitat and growing economies.
