Western design show scheduled for fall return to Cody

With its rich history as a wellspring of Western design, Cody, is once again hosting a premier exhibition of unique, handmade furniture, crafts, textiles and other works. By Western Hands, which had its inaugural show last September at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, will return to that venue for this year's show. A newly formed successor to previous design shows in Cody, By Western Hands showcases original works by local and national artists who create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the land, life and labor of the West. Yellowstone seeks comment on proposed trail bridge replacement

Yellowstone National Park is seeking public comment on a project to replace a bridge across the Gallatin River along the Bighorn Pass Trail. This project would provide better accessibility to visitors, address safety issues in the area, and improve the visitor experience. In September 2014, trail crews removed a footbridge crossing the Gallatin River that had deteriorated to a dangerous condition. Four options are being considered. Continue Reading →

Winter activities in full swing in Yellowstone, Grand Teton

A fresh layer of snow and colder temperatures have put winter activities in full swing in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, with a wide range of travel and recreation options available. Visitors to Yellowstone National Park can travel the park’s interior roads on commercially guided snowmobiles and snowcoaches from the North, West, and South Entrances. Visitors who have proper permits can also participate in the Non-commercially Guided Snowmobile Access Program. Travel through the park’s East Entrance over Sylvan Pass is scheduled to begin December 22. Continue Reading →

Grand Teton rangers investigate mistakenly killed moose

Grand Teton National Park rangers are working in partnership with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and conducting an investigation regarding an illegal take of a moose within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park. Wyoming Game and Fish Wardens were contacted over the weekend by a participant of the park’s elk reduction program who reported a calf moose was mistakenly shot. State game wardens seized the meat, cited the individual for taking a moose without a license, and contacted park rangers. The meat was donated to local families in need. Continue Reading →

Rendezvous Ski Trail opens at West Yellowstone

The Rendezvous Ski Trail system, located on the Custer Gallatin National Forest near West Yellowstone, Mont., is now being groomed thanks to early snow and just in time for the upcoming Yellowstone Ski Festival. During the month of November, a Yellowstone Ski Festival pass is required for all skiers. Pass prices (per skier) are $12 for one day and $55 for the entire month of November. Passes are available for sale in West Yellowstone at the Visitor Center, FreeHeel & Wheel, Holiday Inn, and at the Rendezvous Trailhead. Continue Reading →

2 grizzly bears killed in separate incidents near Yellowstone

A few grizzly bears have been spotted emerging from hibernation in Yellowstone National Park.

Two grizzly bears were killed by elk hunters acting in self defense last week in separate incidents near Yellowstone National Park. According to information released by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, both hunters were unharmed in the incidents. In each case, the hunters were able to return to their vehicles unharmed and report the incident. Continue Reading →

Grand Teton rangers aid hiker after fall

Grand Teton National Park rangers aided an injured hiker in Avalanche Canyon Monday evening, and transported her from the area to a local medical facility. Millie Jimenez, 24-year old female from Moose, Wyo, was returning from a hike in Avalanche Canyon with a friend late Monday afternoon, October 12. Jimenez lost her footing as she descended a rock slab area. She tumbled approximately 25 feet, and then fell another 20 feet, landing on a steep and rocky slope. Continue Reading →

Scenic Moose-Wilson Road in Grand Teton re-opens to vehicles

The Moose-Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park has re-opened after black bear activity on the road has subsided. Through traffic on the scenic road had been halted to allow for bear activity in the area. Grand Teton National Park managers initiated a temporary closure of the road on September 9. After several patrols of the road in the last 24 hours indicated that bear activity had substantially decreased, managers made the decision to re-open the road. Continue Reading →
