Visitors cautioned as elk rut begins in Yellowstone

Placid elk lounging around the lawns of Mammoth Hot Springs are a favorite attraction for Yellowstone National Park visitors. But the start of the fall rut means bull elk are much more aggressive toward both people and vehicles. Several vehicles are damaged by elk every year and occasionally people are charged by elk and can be injured. 2 dead in separate incidents in Yellowstone

An 8-year-old girl died Sunday morning after falling into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a popular attraction in Yellowstone National Park. In an unrelated incident, the body of a concessions worker who died while floating the Yellowstone River was recovered Saturday. The girl, Zahra Allahyari, and family members were following a trail to the Brink of the Lower Falls observation platform when she fell 550 feet into the canyon. Continue Reading →

Woman dies in Grand Teton rafting accident

A rafting accident on the Snake River resulted in the death of one member of a private boating party Sunday evening, July 13, in Grand Teton National Park. Donna Viehman, 63, of Jackson, Wyoming was riding in a rubber raft just north of the Moose Landing with five other people, including her husband, when the raft hit a mid-stream obstruction. Tourists injured in Grand Teton tour bus crash

Twenty-four people were treated for injuries follwing a commercial tour bus Thursday afternoon in Grand Teton National Park. A bus carrying 26 passengers and a driver crashed approximately four miles north of Colter Bay Village. Ambulances and a passenger van were used to transport 24 people for medical care at St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson, Wyoming. Yellowstone rangers conducting commercial vehicle inspections

Yellowstone National Park rangers and state and federal transportation officials will conduct safety evaluations of commercial vehicles and operators traveling in the park this summer. Pilot injured after plane crashses in Yellowstone

Emergency personnel walk past the wreckage of a crashed airplane Monday after the injured pilot was transported for medical care.

A 54-year old man was injured when the single-engine airplane he was piloting crashed Monday morning in Yellowstone National Park near the community of Gardiner, Mont. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., multiple callers reported that a small plane had crashed just north of the Gardiner Cemetery and east of Yellowstone Trail inside Yellowstone National Park, according to a statement released by the park's public affairs office. Temporary closures scheduled for South Jenny Lake in Grand Teton

Starting Monday, May 12, a temporary area closure will be in effect for several south Jenny Lake locations within Grand Teton National Park. Park officials said the temporary public closures are necessary to ensure public safety during construction activities involving helicopter-assisted transport of heavy material to trail locations on the west side of Jenny Lake.
