A new time-lapse video posted by Vimeo user Sunil Seelam has managed to satisfy both yearnings at the same time. The four-minute clip shows a frenetically paced 101-mile trip from Grant Village in Yellowstone Park to downtown Cody, Wyo. It's the video equivalent of driving at more than 1,500 mph. Still, it's easily possible to pick out landmarks and favorite spots along the way. How many familiar sights can you recognize in four minutes? Continue Reading →

Viral video of ‘Bison Fury’ shows need for safety around Yellowstone, Grand Teton wildlife
With fall approaching in the high country of Yellowstone National Park, animals are moving to lower elevations, prompting park officials to issue a seasonal warning about staying clear of wildlife. Proving the point, a viral video of a Yellowstone bison chasing a boy is attracting plenty of attention online. Park regulations require people to stay at least 100 yards from wolves and bears, and 25 yards from other large wildlife like elk and bison. Both bison and elk become more aggressive during their seasonal mating periods, and park officials want to make sure visitors don't get too close. That's exactly what happened in a 90-second vacation video called Bison Fury, viewed more than 100,000 times since it was uploaded Aug. 4 to to YouTube. Continue Reading →

A look at the Grand Teton multipurpose pathway system
Earlier this year, work was completed on a second section of the Grand Teton National Park multipurpose pathway, and public officials will hold a celebration Aug. 9 to mark the milestone. Bikers, inline skaters, joggers and others can now travel from park headquarters at Moose, Wyo. to Jackson via the pathway. For park visitors unfamiliar with the pathway, here's a look at some of the details on the rules and restrictions from park spokeswoman Jackie Skaggs. The video, posted by 22Local in 2009, when the first segment was set to open, offers a look at what the pathway system is like. Plans call for continuing expansion of the system to connect with additional pathways as funds become available. Continue Reading →

A video trip to the summit of Grand Teton
A 2010 video from Men's Journal magazine showing a climb to the 13,770-foot summit of Grand Teton with Exum Mountain Guides offers a glimpse at what some of the climb is like. While the climb, one of hundreds in the park, is described in the video as a relatively "attainable" ascent, it also requires being a fit and technically proficient climber. So if you're planning on doing any mountaineering while visiting Grand Teton National Park, it's important — as with any outdoor recreational activity — to know your limits and stay within them. Kayak trip to remote shores of Yellowstone Lake
If you have visited Yellowstone National Park several times, you're probably pretty familiar with the most popular sights and attractions along the paved roads. If you've taken hikes or overnight trips into the backcountry, you've seen a part of the park that only a small fraction of visitors ever get to witness. But odds are, you've never taken a kayak along the remote shores of Yellowstone Lake. Thanks to a fun, engaging and beautiful video made by Scott Baxter and Scott Campbell, you can tag along for a 10-minute highlight reel of their 5-day kayak trip to the southeast arm of Yellowstone Lake, into some of the most rugged and remote country in the park — or anywhere, for that matter. Fearless elk hang around disinterested grizzly bear at Willow Flats in Grand Teton
Well, here's something you don't see every day. Photographer Daryl Hunter has posted a pretty perplexing video of elk and a grizzly bear behaving in a way that seems — well, you're just going to have to watch it. In Hunter's video, a grizzly bear in the Willow Flats area of Grand Teton National Park strolls into frame and, understandably, a bunch of elk trot briskly in the opposite direction. But then, something really weird happens. The grizzly does not give chase, and the elk walk right back up to the bear. Then the bear appears to wander around the herd for a few minutes, all without the bear or the elk doing what you would expect. Continue Reading →

There's an old saying in Wyoming about the capricious nature of Mother Nature: "If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes, it will change." A new short film about weather in Grand Teton National Park follows the changes in wind and rain, clouds and thunder as the second in a series of four videos highlighting the natural wonders and hidden beauty of the park.
